- We are leading the San Diego Food System Working Group (SDFSWG) towards a new civic engagement that brings together a diverse array of food system stakeholders to develop food and agriculture policy recommendations and to conduct formative research. This outstanding working group will develop a comprehensive action plan that will include clear policy recommendations for San Diego County.
- We are facilitating the Growers’ Project including the USDA-Rural Development, CA Center for Cooperative Development and the San Diego Farm Bureau. Our joint with the purposes are to review appropriate models for the formation of a San Diego grower’s cooperative with an emphasis on specialty crop producers, to meet market demand for locally-grown food, and to encourage local economic redevelopment from the agriculture sector.
- Our Sustainability Project is providing training to planners, regulators and educators on the efficiency and viability of sustainable agricultural technologies and best management practices. These practices have been proven to help farmers increase crop yields, conserve water, manage agricultural residues, and minimize environmental impacts from farming. This evolving training project is a vital step towards development of a sustainable system of agriculture and resource management in San Diego County.
